Restaurants and United Way team up for Dine Out and Donate

 

Times are tough for consumers and businesses alike, but the people who are helped by United Way feel it even more. This year is definitely a challenge for United Way’s traditional donors, as well as the people in our community who live closer to the edge than most of us.

 

To help out eleven restaurants in Oxford have teamed-up with United Way to encourage people to Dine Out and Donate to United Way.  Between November 9 and November 18, when you eat out at 208, Varsity Grille, Prime, Marie’s Lebanese Cuisine, Honeybee’s Bakery, Old Venice, Proud Larry’s, Rooster’s Blues Club, Taylor Grocery, Two Stick, and Volta you will be provided information about United Way and its services and be given the opportunity to make a cash or check donation. Some restaurants will even match donations received between November 9– November 18. Last year was the first year for the Dine Out and Donate to the United Way, six restaurants participated raising $1,679.

 

“There are so many people needing help. United Way helps us all -the elderly, the young, those in crisis, those in need. Over 21,000 people in our community received help from United Way and its partner agencies in 2008,” according to Allison Borders, volunteer with United Way, many United Way agencies, and owner of Two Stick, one of the Dine Out restaurants. “It’s great to see the good United Way does in our community. What would we do without the United Way and the community agencies we are used to turning to for help, support and services?”, Allison wondered.

 

Kathy Sukanek, Executive Director of United Way, is excited about this year. “I am thrilled to see the increase in restaurant participation, from six restaurants last year to thirteen supporting the Dine Out and Donate this year!  I want to encourage the community to eat at these restaurants and help them help the United Way.”
